February Wrap Up

Reading Life:

Total books read this month: 6 (a low for me, but with good reason)

Books read that had been on my TBR list for more than 10 years: 1

I read Anna Karenina this month– finally. I cannot regret having put it off for so long because it resonated with me in such peculiar and particular ways because of the place I’m at in life right now. No, I’m not contemplating an affair with a Count or making a disastrous trip to the train station any time soon, but I think I wouldn’t have connected with this book before. In the comments, humor me: did you have to read this book for school? If so, what age? I cannot imagine why it appears, even in shortened form, on some high school syllabi.

ARCs read this month: one, The Heart Forger by Rin Chupeco. If you liked The Bone Witch (and I did), you’ll enjoy this follow-up.

Amazing book club meetings this month: Two. In one group, we discussed sexuality and identity, centered around The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Reid Jenkins and the other, we talked about African American authors and I got a chance to squee about An American Marriage for a few minutes. If you haven’t picked it up yet— do.

Writing Life

the end

It’s not pretty or perfect, but it’s done. Finished the first draft of my new thing this month and onto the revision process.

I have the #FebWritingChallenge crew to thank for the support to plow through the rest of my first draft this month. I had a blast as the hashtag leader, in charge of cheerleading and support. I didn’t expect the feeling of pride for each of the writers who entered in their figures– daily or weekly. I loved watching everyone’s progress!

If you’re in a rut with your writing or editing, consider joining the Monthly Twitter Challenge hashtag on Twitter. It really is a special, very welcoming community.  I’ll be on the hashtag for #MarWritingChallenge while editing.
